Making a positive difference is part of what keeps our culture alive. Employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and resources through events like these:
Rebuilding Together Oakland and Sacramento: GSB provides financial sponsorship of the projects and employees volunteer to repair homes of qualified seniors or nonprofit buildings.
Holiday Food Drive: GSB employees are passionate about their food drive. For 6 weeks each fall, employees fill our headquarters lobby with donated jars of peanut butter and other food, contributing thousands of pounds of food to the Alameda County Food Bank.
Coat and Clothes Drive for Homeless Shelters: GSB employees collect coats and blankets for donation to homeless shelters.
Volunteer Leadership Positions: GSB leaders learn and share their leadership skills by volunteering in different leadership capacities such as:
- board members of CBOS and other public-private sector collaboratives,
- classroom teachers for training topics that they have expertise in – customer service, resume writing, etc.
- intern supervisors: GSB works with local job training CBOs and provides internship placements for at-risk youth. GSB employees act as their supervisors and learn supervision skills.
